December 16 Newsletter.

I hope you are keeping well. Here’s my final newsletter of the year. What a year it’s been!! Did you know that if you had put a £5 accumulator bet on at the beginning of the year that Leicester would win the Premier League, that Britain would leave Europe and Donald Trump would be elected President of the US, you would now be £15 million richer!!! True.

Passwords.

I have found this amazing new invention for saving your passwords. It’s virtually free, and can never be hacked into or seen online. It is 100% fool proof and will never go out of date.

IT’S CALLED PEN AND PAPER!!!

I don’t know of anybody, including me, that haven’t at some time had an issue with passwords. Either because you have forgotten which password you have used, or the password you think is right, isn’t being accepted. It is one of the most frustrating things.

Yes there are some very good programmes that will remember your Internet passwords, such as Roboform (which I love), and Dashlane is also very good.

However, there is no substitute for writing them down in a little notebook.

My strong advice is to buy a little book and write down all your passwords. Keep it simple.

Roboform

I love Roboform, which is free for light users, saving up to 10 passwords, or the Pro version in which you can save unlimited passwords. BUT that’s not the main reason why I use Roboform. I use it mainly as a Form Filler. When I come across a website that requires my name, address, phone numbers etc, I simply click on the Roboform icon at the top of the screen, and it automatically fills in all the details for me. You can decide how much or little information you add to Roboform, such as bank or credit card info. It’s simple and easy to use. If you would like more info please call or email me.

PC For sale

I have a Dell Inspiron desktop PC that has been completely refurbished and taken back to original factory settings, so it’s as good as new. It works really well. The technical spec is as follows:

Windows 10 (was originally Windows 7)

Processor: Pentium Dual Core 3.30GHz

4Gb RAM

500 Gb Hard drive

Keyboard & Mouse

Open Office included

No Monitor

It would make an ideal replacement for an old PC, or as a great 2nd computer for the house.

Price £149.00 including delivery.  Only one, so first come, first served.

Of course if you wish to transfer your data from another computer I would be happy to do so, as an optional extra.

Beware of telephone scams

I have recently seen an upsurge of telephone scams, which you should be extremely cautious of. Two of my customers have had calls that purport to be from BT Broadband (or TalkTalk), saying that there has been a problem with your direct debit payment, which has failed to go through, and that they are about to cut off your service. They sound very convincing and ask you to confirm your bank details and security info (date of birth etc). DON’T DO IT!!!

Your Internet provider will NEVER ask you for bank details. No ISP will ever phone you to say that they’re about to cut you off. But of course your immediate reaction is panic, and to stop them cutting your Internet service.

I know it sounds obvious, but never follow their instructions to do things on your computer, however convincing they sound. If you receive a call like this simply hang up and call your ISP and ask them if there is a problem with your account. Don’t fall victim to these scammers.

Ad Blocker

More and more web pages are filled with annoying pop up adverts, which delay the web page fully loading on the screen, as well as possible harbouring malware and tracking cookies.

I recommend using Ad Blocker, which is a free download that prevents these annoying ads from appearing. It can be installed on most web browsers, including Internet Explorer, Google Chrome and Firefox.

Just go to https://adblockplus.org/ or search for the Add On in the Chrome or Firefox.

Any problems, please call me.

And finally:

I just wanted to wish all my lovely customers a very happy Festive Season and a Happy, Healthy and Safe 2017.

I’m away for a week from 27th December in sunny Tenerife, can’t bloody wait!!!!

Lots of love.

Dr Henry.
